Why can't I get my parents to take advantage of today's technology?
Posted: August 7, 2015, 11:53AMWe have seen amazing advances in technology! Research shows that you are not alone if you are having trouble getting your folks interested in technology! A Pew Research Center survey showed that 41% of American adults over the age of 65 don't use the Internet in any way. More than half don't have broadband Internet and nearly one-quarter don't use cell phones. Why? The report stresses three key barriers: Skepticism about the benefits of using technology; physical challenges that make it difficult to use devices; and, trouble learning new technologies.
There are many benefits to using what's available and if you can overcome the obstacles, there are many advantages. Keeping in contact with family members through social media and emails; staying up to date with current events and taking advantage of physicians' electronic portals; reading books, playing games, watching movies on devices; and, shopping options (have to pay attention to this one!!).
