What is the Caregiver Support Fair?

The Belmont County Adult Services Coalition sponsors this event which offers information to seniors and caregivers around the area on services, resources and programs that are available to help with the aging and caregiving journey. The 2016 event will be our 17th Annual Fair.

Just about 17 years ago, several of us in health and human services were not only working at our 'day jobs" and taking care of our families, we were also providing care to an elderly relative. We were discussing the problems we were having negotiating the social service delivery system and lamenting the problems we were having. We came to the conclusion that if we were having problems (and we were professionals in the field!) what did the general community caregiver or senior run into.

We then decided that we would try to provide a fair with exibitors, information, and opportunities to meet the service providers in a central location. We thought we should have some entertainment at the event so we added a Fashion Show and hourly performers. The Ohio Valley Mall has been a constant support since the first year, and continues to work with us to provide a quality event. Riesbeck's has provided cake for our Fair goers from the first year.

The Fair has grown each year. A few years ago we were able to add a networking 'breakfast' for our exhibitors to afford the opportunity to meet colleagues and catch up on programs and services. We have been able to add health screens, and most exhibitors have giveaways and door prizes.

The Fair is free for attendees, and we invite all who are aging or providing care, and those who are interested in in aging and caregiving to stop in.

There is no fee for exhibitors but most exhibitors must provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance. The event is NOT just for Belmont county businesses /agencies and all are welcome to participate - exhibitors and Fair-goers!

Last year we had over 95 exhibitors and we usually have in excess of 400 attendees. It's a great opportunity to see what services are available, pick up information so you can compare agencies, and talk to the agency representatives.

This year's event will be held on May 3, 2016 from 10am - 3pm at the Ohio Valley Mall in St Clairsville OH.
