It's Income Tax Time!

Scammers know that it's income tax time, too! Income tax time offers scammers many opportunities to steal our money and personal information.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, common tax schemes include charity scams, retirement tax scams, refund scams, and "dead person filing" scams.

Premier Bank offers some tips on being proactive:

File early. This gives scammers less time to get your information and use it to commit fraud.

If you file online, make sure you have a secure WiFi connection.

If you file by mail, drop your return inside the post office not in an outside USPS box. Don't put your return in your outside box for pick up. Go to the post office.

Know your tax preparer. Can you trust them?

Shred sensitive documents.

Be proactive with scam prevention!
