How do I find in home help?
Posted: November 20, 2014, 11:35AMToday, one in four American families cares for an older relative, friend or neighbor with an estimated 25 - 40% of women caring for both older relatives and children. Half of all caregivers also work outside the home. A Rand study shows that informal (unpaid) caregiving is a primary source of long term elder care with approximately 30 BILLION hours spent annually in caring for the elderly. It is no wonder that caregivers often need help!
There are agencies that offer in home (non-medical) assistance. The service may be offered by a free-standing agency where in home support is their only service or the service may be provided as a division of a skilled care agency (nurses and therapists offering services that are prescribed by a physician and covered by insurance. There are also private duty caregivers who are not affiliated with an agency.
Let us help! We can offer options for services. Or - contact your local hospital discharge planners, your county senior center or Area Agency on Aging. Local agencies KNOW the resources that are available. As helpful as on-line services are, it is beneficial to get current information from professionals who KNOW their community!
