3G is Going Away ~ What Does That Mean?

3G or the third generation of wireless is going away to make more room for 5G or the 5th generation of wireless. Carriers are shutting down 3G networks to make room for more advanced network services, including 5G.

What does this mean?

It means that many older cell phones will no longer be able to make or receive calls and texts including emergency numbers. It means that some medical equipment, tablets, vehicle SOS services, home security systems and other 'connected' devices may no longer work. It means that you may need to replace devices that will no longer work.

BTW - watch for scammers seeking to take advantage of this change. Don't be pressured into buying devices. Be leary of offers of discounts and other deals. Talk to your cell carrier and equipment providers for medical devices.
